Two films top the Oscars shortlist



The nominations for the 80th Academy Awards feature been announced, with 'No Country for Old Men' and 'There Will Be Blood' leading the short list with eight nominations apiece.
'Atonement', 'Juno' and 'Michael Clayton' have likewise received numerous nominations.
As expected Wicklow house physician Daniel Day-Lewis has been nominated for a C. H. Best Doer Academy Award for his performance in 'There Will Be Blood'.
The other nominees for Best Actor are: George Clooney ('Michael Clayton'), Rebel Depp ('Sweeney Todd'), Tommy Robert E. Lee Robert Tyre Jones ('In the Vale of Elah') and Viggo Mortensen ('Eastern Promises').
The Best Actress short list is: Cate Blanchett ('Elizabeth: The Golden Age'), Julie Christie ('Away from Her'), Marion Cotillard ('La Compete en Rose'), Laura Linney ('The Savages') and Ellen Thomas Nelson Page ('Juno').
The nominees for Best Supporting Actor ar: Casey Affleck ('The Assassination of Jesse James by the Noel Coward Henry M. Robert Ford'), Javier Bardem ('No Country for Old Men'), Philip Seymour Dustin Hoffman ('Charlie Wilson's War'), Hal Holbrook ('Into the Wild') and Tom Wilkinson ('Michael Clayton').
Along with Irish people teenager Saoirse Ronan, Cate Blanchett ('I'm Not There'), Deep red Dee ('American Gangster'), Amy Ryan ('Gone Baby Gone') and Tilda Swinton ('Michael Clayton') have been nominated in the Best Supporting Actress class.
Shortlisted for Best Conductor are: Julian Artur Schnabel ('The Diving Bell and the Butterfly'), Jason Reitman ('Juno'), Tony Gilroy ('Michael Clayton'), Joel and Ethan Coen ('No Country for Old Men') and Paul Lowell Thomas Marian Anderson ('There Will Be Blood').
The films nominated for C. H. Best Picture are: 'Atonement', 'Michael Clayton', 'No Country for Old Men', 'There Will Be Blood' and 'Juno'.
The five-spot films nominated for Topper Foreign Cinema are: 'The Counterfeiters' (Republic of Austria), 'Beaufort' (Israel), 'Katyn' (Polska), 'Mongol' (Kazakstan) and '12' (Russia).
The nominees for Charles Herbert Best Docudrama Feature ar: 'No End in Sight', 'Operation Return: Writing the Wartime Experience', 'Sicko', 'Taxi to the Dark Side' and 'War/Dance'.
